About Us! What is Detox?

It’s never to late, Break the Addiction..

Alcoholics Addicted Anonymous

Millions Of people Around The Country Have Came To Terms With The Fact They Had A Drinking Addiction

They knew their lives were being wrecked and they sought help to save a sinking ship. Detox helped rid their body of alcohol, and rehab offered therapies that helped them to face their addiction and to find coping ways to better identify triggers and to avoid relapse. When clients return home from addiction treatment, they know that their struggle is not over. There will always be temptations. Alcohol can be found on any store on a street corner. It can be found in grocery stores, restaurants, and at sports bars. The recovering individual must learn to deal with these distractions and triggers for the rest of their life.

Alcohol Anonymous (AA) Can Help

The meetings can be extremely helpful. They are convened by people who are in an addiction experience, or who have emerged on the winning side. Whatever their status, these are people who understand addiction. They can help new members with the same problems. The reality is that we all listen to people that we feel have an intimate understanding of a thing. If you are in college, it is easy to respect the lecture that the professor gives. If maintenance is being performed on your vehicle, you take time to listen to the mechanic. It is the same with AA. Those who sponsor and those who attend have first-hand experience with alcohol addiction. They know the ups and downs, and the highs and the lows. There will be no one at these meetings to judge you.
AA meetings are open to anyone who wants to join. The only criteria for joining is that an individual wants to make a difference in their life. The new member has to want to change, and be willing to admit their shortcomings. Members are not powerless, but they readily admit their inability to fight addiction without clinical and social support. There is no shame in this. It is simply acknowledging there is constant need to remain vigilant in the fight against addiction.

What to Expect During a Meeting of AA

AA meetings can be open to anyone, or they can be specific to groups like women, men, athletes, or musicians. Most meetings will begin with a short prayer which may be followed by a moment of quiet meditation. If someone wishes to speak, they are required to begin by saying, “My name is…and I am an alcoholic, friend, visitor.” That person is free to tell their story. There are no lectures, only inspiration that can be felt around the room. For people who attend, there is a great deal of inspiration and hope that can be gained from the experiences of others. AA is huge. Millions of members attend meetings in their own area.

One of the amazing things about AA is that the organization helps to change lives. People from all walks of life attend. Some, arrive broken and in deep despair, and virtually staggering through the front door. It is the transformation that some of these people experience that is deemed miraculous. Hope changes the very look in a person’s eyes. They seem to stand taller and walk with more confidence. This is because they hear stories of people that were just like them, often in worse shape with they joined AA. People share their lives and situations, along with how they still continue to fight the urge to relapse. Just listening to the story of how someone overcame can be inspiring.

Finding a meeting should not be a problem in the least. You simply have to check online or cruise the Internet and search for an AA chapter or group near you. As we said, there will be no cost to join. Just show up with an urge to get better and to become a part of a group that cares that you get your life back on track. That is all that will be required. AA groups come in all shapes and forms as well. There are professional groups, men and women’s groups, sports groups, and ethnic groups etc. Whatever the group, there is something positive to take away from each meeting for those who choose to attend.

If you are in need of some additional support beyond your own treatment program, find an AA group to attend. You will find people that understand your walk, and that are not judgmental in the least.
