How Drug Detox Facilities Measure Success

Measure SuccessThe decision to seek clinical help is the first action an addicted person can take to start the recovery process. For many, taking that first step is the biggest challenge in breaking free from addictive substances. However, it is a step that reaps its own reward if successfully completed. While a person may have reached a mental point where their brain is willing for healing and sobriety, their body may still be addicted to a drug. Detox is accomplished once their body and mind are in sync. Otherwise, true detox is difficult to accomplish.

What to Expect of Drug Detox Centers

Medical detox treatment provided by licensed drug detox rehabilitation centers are designed to provide patients with medications and therapies that help rid the body of harmful drugs. Patients realize the best results when treated in a secure, safe, and medically  supervised setting. The support and treatment that patients receive all have one major goal in mind—to help the patient work toward a sober future.

Drugs That Are Likely to Cause Withdrawals

Medical detox is necessary because of drugs that cause withdrawal symptoms as the body builds resistance. The following drugs are the most commonly associate with painful withdrawal symptoms

  • Opiates include morphine, heroin, Vicodin, and OxyContin. It is never recommended that a person attempt detox on their own because the withdrawal process can sometimes be life-threatening. While opiate withdrawals are not typically life-threatening, they can be very uncomfortable for most. Clinical detox can provide the professional oversight to help ensure the patient’s safety.
  • Benzodiazepines include drugs like Halcyon, Valium, and Klonopin to name several. These are sedating drugs, and withdrawal symptoms can be life-threatening. Without proper oversight, an addict may experience hallucinations, seizures, or tremors. Medically supervised detox is highly recommended.
  • Cocaine withdrawal may not be as typically severe as complications experienced with benzodiazepines, but detox for many can be challenging and difficult. Withdrawal symptoms may include bouts of anxiety, irritability, and an acute lack of concentration. Recovering addicts are often at a risk of relapse.
  • Amphetamines include prescription drugs like Ritalin and methamphetamines, which all tend to boost activity of the user’s nervous system. Detox is dangerous in a non-medical environment, and removal of the drugs usually cause adverse and unusual brain activity. Meth withdrawal symptoms can include episodes of psychosis for up to one week or more after a person has attempted to quit.

Drug Detox Centers provide the most effective solutions while providing medications, counseling, and examinations that help determine if there are any co-occurring disorders. Aftercare programs are highly desirable as well. These programs can help addicted individuals make the transition from detox and rehab back to a normal life.

Drug addiction can affect a person both physically and mentally. Effective and caring drug detox facilities know that the fight for sobriety can last a lifetime for some. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a widely accepted, and effective means of helping patients understand the connection between their thoughts and actions. Patients learn that even if a situation remains the same, they have the ability to react in a positive manner. Families are an important element in a patient’s recovery process. Effective counseling can give both patients and their loved ones a means of understanding addiction, how to identify and avoid triggers, and how to avoid enabling tendencies.

Drug detox facilities and drug detox centers play a critical role in helping patients to successfully detox and to find a purpose for living free of addiction. Drug detox rehabilitation centers are also skilled at helping patients learn ways to remain free of substance abuse. Drug detox facilities and drug detox centers measure success by each and every addicted individual they can help get back on the road toward a successful recovery.
